Meeting Minutes

Frank Pickett opened the meeting, held at the Flowing Wells High School Auto Shop, at 9:00am.
MINUTES: The September Minutes were not read/approved because the Secretary was not present. There was one correction noted. Add the following statement - “Adrian Barton is the person to contact regarding name tags.”
50/50: The 50/50 total was $69. Pete DeMarco won $34, and $35 went to the club.
TREASURER’S REPORT: The current DWA bank balance is $2,731.39.
BRING BACK: Adrian Barton brought a pen and pencil set. It was won by Stan Ries. Stan will be responsible for supplying a Bring Back for the November meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
CHRISTMAS PARTY – Saturday, December 10th. It will be a lunch at the Viscount Hotel (Broadway & Swan). The cost of the lunch is $40/person. For tickets, contact Jim Payne. You can still get tickets at the November meeting. There will be a “Bring a Gift, Get a Gift” (Gift should be homemade, but doesn’t necessarily have to be made out of wood. Food items are OK too.)
There will be an auction of Christmas Ornaments donated by the club at the Christmas Party. Doors open at 9:00am. Auction will start at 10:00am. Ken Tower volunteered to do the Auction.
DECEMBER 3 will be a normal meeting.
ELECTIONS:
A motion was made to suspend the By-Laws and re-elect the current state of officers for next year. Ken Tower made the motion, Sam Scalzo seconded. Motion passed overwhelmingly (only one opposed).
NEW WEBMASTER:
New Webmaster is Fred Frankenfeld (520) 290-1441. Assistant is Chip Jarvis (520) 403-5199. Contact either of them with questions or for sending information to post on our website.
OLD BUSINESS: None

MEMBERSHIP & DUES: $35/year
We currently have 48 members. For incoming new members, or re-instating past members, the dues are $35/year and can be paid at any DWA meeting or mailed to Jim Payne. COMMUNITY PROJECTS:
DOODLE BOXES (Part of the Toy Project) – Chairman: Terry Glover (520) 290-8503
Goal Set for 2022 – 800 boxes with 4 colored, dry-erase markers (between DWA & SAZWA)
Status: 290 turned in to date. Last chance for Doodle Boxes! Contact Terry is you can help.
TOYS – Chairman: Frank Pickett (520) 546-7646
Goal set for 2022 – 3,000 toys (including Doodle Boxes).
Wheels and axles are available through Frank.
Status: All toys are due by December 3rd
BEADS OF COURAGE – Chairman: Ken Tower (520) 326-5839
Goal set for 2022 – 150 boxes (between DWA & SAZWA).
Status: 77 turned in to date.
PURPLE HEART PENS – Chairmen: Ken Tower (520) 326-5839 and Paul Swane
(520) 818-0446.
Goal set for 2022 – 200 pens (between DWA & SAZWA) for the VFW.
Status: 256 turned in to date.
PENS FOR THE TROOPS – Chairman: Martha Garcia
Goal set for 2022 – 2,000 pens (between DWA and SAZWA).
Status: 1,920 turned in to date and mailed. We exceeded current year pens with SAZWAs.
NESTING SHELTERS (HOUSES) – Chairman: Spencer Davis (520) 471-2480.
Goal set for 2022 – 200 Nesting Boxes. Plans available online. Audubon Society needs them by March. Status: 200 Nest Boxes turned in to date, with enough wood to make another 100. We are now making kits to be assembled at Events or given to people to assemble.
SHOW & TELL:
We had toy cars, mason jars, laser-cut jeep (really detailed), and Christmas ornaments. A good representation this month.
The winner of the Monthly Show & Tell $25 went to Frank Pickett (for Christmas Ornaments).
PRESIDENT’S CHOICE:
Many projects were displayed. Next Quarterly Drawing for $25 will be December.
PRESIDENT’S CHOICE FOR NOVEMBER: Any toy.
Future 2022 President’s Choice Items: December: A Christmas Item to donate.
TODAY’S DEMO: A video by Frank Pickett entitled “Working With Small Pieces.”

George Lewis passed away two weeks ago. Paula will send a Sympathy card from the club.

- New website in progress. Target date to go “live” - 1 Jan 2023.
- Diaper Bank has made over $500 from our contributions.

Woodworker’s Source will be giving a “Rosewood Club” discount to members.

Woodcraft (Randy) has requested Purple Heart Pens this week. See Ken Tower for supplies. Randy is still looking for scraps of wood for schools. See size details on website.
John Nicholson moved to limit (all 4) Officers to 2 consecutive terms. Martha Garcia seconded. Motion amended to apply to only the President and Vice President. 3 people were for the motion, many against. Motion Fails.
Ken Tower invited club members to the school on December 16 to distribute toys. Call Ken for times and directions to school.
Discussion of toys other than cars for next year: Basketball game, whistles, tops, and keepsake books.

Status: 83 turned in to date. Didn’t meet goal for the year, but they have plenty of boxes.

Status: 2,297 turned in to date. We exceeded current year pens with SAZWAs. Will confirm exact number with Corporate, and report in January.

Phillips), napkin rings (Frank Pickett), Christmas card tree and ornaments (Ken Tower),
Beads-of-Courage Boxes and much more. The winner of the Monthly Show & Tell $25 went to
Pete DeMarco.
